FreshFire ReLaunch 2007 -- how we got here.

Some of you may be interested in more details about the inner workings of Club Worship, and the changes that we are currently undergoing etc. Here’s more information than you need, and probably more than you want, but here goes.

As we stand today, we are poised for a huge Club Worship re-launch on August 24, 2007. Its been an interesting year so far, and a pretty quiet one to date, but that is about to change, and change quick.

Back in 2006, I sensed that God was going to do something new with Club Worship… not being sure what, I just obeyed his voice, and we had our last event at the Olympian Ballroom in January of 2007. The last night at the ballroom was really great. We could really sense God there, and the dancefloor was full of people so late into the night. Tons of people didn’t want to go home.

Twila and Gustavo Ramirez, pastors at Hope of the Nations church had started a conversation with us regarding a property that they were planning to purchase. The property used to be a nightclub, and so they thought of us right away, and the potential for ministry there.

Unfortunately early February, the roof collapsed on Hope of the Nations building, and the situation instantly became complicated. The purchase of the building and the repairs and renovations that needed to be made were held back significantly, but slowly got underway.

In May, as the repairs continued, we began to have a conversation again about Club Worship re-launching in their facility in the city. At this point, we also realized that we shared a lot of vision with Chad Eberly and the Reading House Of Prayer who has a heart for the city of Reading, and were launching some new hip hop ministry. Eventually, we decided that we should all get together and work collaboratively and bring it all under the Club Worship name.

Today, we are essentially working together to create something new. The oversight for the new organization will be through the Reading Regional Transformation Network and the leadership of Craig Nanna and his team. And we are open to new partners to come alongside this ministry if God draws us together with a shared vision.

The excitement is really brewing for what God is going to do with this new phase of ministry, and some of the new believers that he is touching throughout the city. We need to be prepared to reach out, to provide a place of exuberant worship for this urban generation.

After the ReLaunch, August 24, Club Worship will be the 2nd and 4th Fridays. Sept 14, Sept 24 etc. The 2nd Friday of the month will be DJ led worship, similar in model to what Club Worship has done the past 7 years…. The 4th Friday of the month will be Live Hip Hop.

If you are interested in being involved with the NEW Club Worship… you need to let me know – how interested, and in what capacity you see yourself serving. You can reply to this email, or call me 717-445-9639 or cell 610-587-3678

Check out the new flyer at www.clubworship.org or get a pile from me, or one of the Club Worship crew.

God is doing a new thing yall!!!

a couple of articles

http://www.soulshine.ca/features/featuresarticle.php?fid=165
Article on Andy Hunter and DJ Led Worship
not a new article, but an interesting one if you havn't read it yet.

http://emergingchurch.info/reflection/robcreet2/index.htm
an interesting article... in which Rob Creet speaks out and wrestles with the concept and practice of DJ Led Worship. THis also links to his first article - where he lists some concerns about Nightclub culture mixing with DJ led worship. It is well thought out, and expressed well, although he seems to be wresting with the issues.

Coming home for Club Worship

Josh Moss here and I'm excited for this weekend. I've been attending Club Worship for about 4 years and led worship for the past 2 1/2... except while I'm at college at IUP. Fortunately I have my own car at school with me this year and I'm glad to say that I will be making the four hour trip home to celebrate the love of Jesus with Andy Hunter, Conexion, DJ. J.Rippa and the rest of my brothers and sisters in West Reading PA. In fact, I'm excited enough that I convinced a carload of people to make the trip with me. Let's worship God in complete abandon on saturday and let our love for him spill over into the rest of our lives... Praise God we are secure in the love of Jesus and we have blessed assurance of our salvation because of the sacrifice he made on the cross. I Can't wait to see you all this saturday.

Blessings in Christ.

His music has been featured in trailers for the Matrix movies, as well as in The Italian Job and the TV show Alias. Through it all, Andy stays true to God's calling, using electronica music to glorify Jesus Christ.

The Ergonomics of Worship

When I'm not throwin' down at Club Worship, most of my waking hours are spent at my day job, as Production Manager of a Christian television station. Recently, we redesigned and rewired our video editing suite. One of the main reasons we did was to create a more ergonomic working environment. (Design factors, as for the workplace, intended to maximize productivity by minimizing operator fatigue and discomfort.) We lowered the desk height, replaced the chair, added new lighting, and brought the computer monitors down to eye level. All this was done for one purpose: to make the working environment as conducive to the task at hand as possible. Overall, I think we succeeded. Now, you may be asking, what in the world does this have to do with worship?

Have you ever thought about how the environment you worship in shapes how you worship? Maybe you attend a church with pews (like I do.) Maybe your church has those nifty stackable chairs. Or maybe you worship in a house church, sunk down deep in your La-Z-Boy. Where ever you worship communally, the ergonomics of the environment will, in some ways, shape your worship.

Think about this: there are two common words in the Bible that have been translated "worship." One means "to bow down," the other is a Greek word, proskuneo, which means, "to kiss towards." Both of those are physically active words, but maybe the environments we worship in aren't conducive to those actions.

That's part of why I love worship in a club environment: we have an ergonomic setting that allows people to bow down, to dance, to spin, to become "undignified" (to borrow King David's term.) Worship leaders have freedom to bring people together in a prayer circle, to have people form small groups to pray for each other, to call people to their knees. There's nothing in the design of the room that's holding people back.

Now, I understand that pews and chairs serve a purpose. In my church, many people (myself included) viewed the way we got our "new-to-us" pews as God's hand of provision and blessing. It's important to have a place to sit for a sermon (if you've ever spent 45 minutes on the floor, trying to pay attention, you know how hard it is.)

But there's something special about a wide open space where people's "hearts scream 'I Am Free!' I am free to run/I am free to dance/I am free to live for you."

New flyers on the way

Mad props to Josh Lawrence and Jeff Stoltzfus for their work on the new Club Worship flyers:
